The difference between Eastpak bags comes down to three things: capacity in litres, back format and intended use. A Padded Pak'R and an Out of Office may look similar from a distance, but one holds 24 litres without a laptop compartment, while the other holds 27 litres with one. 24 or 27 litres: which one should you choose?
This is the most common question, and the answer is simple. 24 litres (Padded Pak'R, Day Pak'r, Padded Double) are enough for a classic school day: A4 folders, pouch, water bottle and a garment. 27 litres (Out of Office) mainly add a padded laptop compartment, which makes all the difference from middle school onwards and for professional commutes. Three extra litres are barely noticeable once the bag is on your back; the dedicated compartment, however, is appreciated every day.
Beyond that, the Pinnacle and Pinzip reach 40 litres: this is the format for high-school students carrying a lot, and for days when you need to add sportswear. Conversely, the Orbit, at 10 litres, is a small city bag that does not accommodate A4 format — something to check before choosing it for school.

Padded Pak'R: the classic
This is the bag that built the brand: a zipped front pocket, one main compartment, padded shoulder straps and 24 litres of capacity. Its silhouette has barely changed since the 1970s. Discover it in the Padded Pak'R collection.
Out of Office: the classic that works harder
The same spirit, three extra litres and, above all, a padded laptop sleeve. This is the model we recommend most often for middle and high school. It comes in several colourways in the Out of Office selection.
Day Pak'r and Padded Double: two ways to organise
The Day Pak'r retains the Padded Pak'R's capacity while adding a laptop compartment. The Padded Double, meanwhile, features two equally sized main compartments: practical for separating schoolwork from sports kit. Both offer 24 litres.
Pinnacle and Pinzip: large capacities
40 litres, a padded back and padded shoulders, plus several organisational pockets. These are the bags for long days and large binders. They can be found alongside the other formats in all our Eastpak backpacks.
Orbit and Floid: compact formats
The Orbit is a 10-litre miniature Padded, designed for the city and younger users. The Floid, with 16 litres, adopts a tall, slim shape that sits comfortably on the back without feeling bulky.
Transit'R: the travel range

Which Eastpak for primary school, middle school or high school?
For primary school, 24 litres are more than enough, and the empty weight matters more than capacity: the Padded Pak'R remains the benchmark. In middle school, a laptop compartment becomes useful and the Out of Office's 27 litres make perfect sense. In high school, the Pinnacle's 40 litres accommodate large binders and sportswear. A guideline that applies at every age: when loaded, a bag should not exceed 10 to 15% of the child's body weight, and its base should sit in the small of the back.
Where does Eastpak come from?
The brand was founded in 1952 under the name Eastern Canvas Products by Monte Goldman: at the time, it made issue bags for the American army. After the Vietnam War, military surplus bags appeared on the backs of American students — this second life led the brand to address the general public under the name Eastpak in 1976. Its reputation for durability began there.
France played a particular role in this story: in 1983, Kostia Belkin became the brand's first importer outside the United States. The country has remained one of Eastpak's largest markets ever since.
The rest comes from an image cultivated against the grain: deliberately unconventional campaigns, partnerships with board sports and faces from the rock scene. And one appearance that left its mark: in Back to the Future, Marty McFly carries a Padded model.
